Yoga is an in-the-body experience of applying spiritual principles to one’s life for the purpose of personal transformation.
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient technology with its roots in the Tantric Yoga tradition. Like most forms of yoga, it has strong physical and spiritual components, and is non-denominational. Additionally, most classes touch on our psychological and emotional aspects as well. Kundalini Yoga pranayama, kriyas and meditations enable us to connect more fully with our heart center. This means we may experience and express ourselves in the world from this most authentically human place, perhaps more deeply then ever before.
For centuries principles and techniques of Kundalini Yoga were taught to select students in India and Tibet. When Yogi Bhajan came to the West in 1968, he synthesized these and other yogic styles with Sikhism, Hinduism, New Thought and esoteric Western mystery schools to create the form of Kundalini Yoga we know today. Kundalini Yoga is safe and satisfying to practice for beginners, long time yoga practitioners, the physically robust and those whose bodies present a variety of challenges. All are welcome. Students are encouraged to work at their own level of ability. If you can breathe, you can do it!
Kundalini Yoga is a rich practice of yoga. Classes may feature exercises unique to Kundalini Yoga, Hatha-based asana, breath work, bandhs, drishti, mudras, mantras, and meditations. The meditations often include mantras, both silent and chanted. Most classes offer something that can be learned on the spot and taken home for private practice. Each class stands alone as a whole experience, although sometimes several are threaded together by a theme. Try it!
